AI-powered sorting technology

A technological breakthrough in sorting is revolutionising recycling

How BT-Systems is bringing the next generation of sorting technology to life with REDWAVE sorting technology and the newly established Development Center (DVC).

BT-Systems is driving a significant technological leap forward in recycling and sorting technology through specially developed sorting algorithms. Building on the proven REDWAVE sorting technology, a new generation of intelligent systems is being developed. Intensive development is taking place in the field of glass sorting, specifically in terms of improved performance. At the heart of this development lies the close integration of high-precision sensor technology, powerful software architecture and neural network models. The aim is to push beyond the performance limits of traditional sorting systems and take the decision-making logic in the sorting process to a new level – delivering direct benefits in terms of product purity, process stability and cost-effectiveness.

AI as an integral part of REDWAVE sorting technology
The new AI architecture has deliberately not been designed as a standalone add-on module. It is an integral part of the REDWAVE system architecture; it is scalable, future-proof and flexible enough to accommodate new areas of application.

From sensor technology to system intelligence
The newly established Development Center (DVC), with just under 20 experts in software, AI, sensor technology, camera technology, mechanical engineering and systems engineering, brings together all of BT-Systems’ development expertise in one location. This interdisciplinary platform enables algorithms, sensors and software functions to be implemented directly into real-world systems, tested in a practical setting and further developed in a targeted manner. The in-house development of software and AI, combined with mechanical and sensor technology, results in integrated end-to-end systems characterised by high precision, stability and future-proofing. Innovation cycles are significantly shortened and new solutions are brought to market more quickly. The DVC thus makes a decisive contribution to an innovation-driven lead in the field of R&D.

Looking ahead:
AI as a platform for new dimensions in sorting
Success in glass sorting is just the beginning. The AI architecture we have developed is designed as a scalable platform and will in future be applied to other material streams – in particular metals and complex multi-material applications. Over the coming months, additional features and new applications will be introduced, significantly expanding the range of applications for REDWAVE sorting technology.

Conclusion
By combining high-precision sensors, intelligent software and AI, BT-Systems is setting new standards in industrial sorting technology. The new Development Center (DVC) significantly strengthens the company’s innovative capacity and R&D expertise. Early successes in glass sorting show that sorting technology has reached a new stage of development.
